Fred earned his degree in tax law at the University of Leiden and has more than 35 years of experience with VAT law. He worked in the international VAT practices of PwC and Arthur Andersen. He was responsible for indirect tax in Europe with Imation Europe. He was responsible for Value Added Tax and similar taxes globally for Lucent. In 2007, he became a partner at The VAT Consultancy Firm. From 2011 through 2025 Fred was Global Director for Indirect Tax and Tax Technology within LyondellBasell, responsible for indirect taxes with focus on Tax Technology, Tax transformation and Process optimization, including SAP Indirect tax determination.
Fred Vervaet has published many articles on value added tax in specialist magazines. He also the co-authored the books “Veredelingsverkeer” (Kluwer/Fenedex), “Een fiscale procedure omzetbelasting” (outlining the rules regarding litigation in Dutch tax courts and the European Court of Justice), and “BTW en Internationaal zakendoen”.
